1-87 Command Sergeant Major

  Command Sgt. Maj. David Bass

CSM Bass entered the Army in Jacksonville, Florida in November 1992. He attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia and graduated as an Infantryman.

CSM Bass has served as a rifleman, grenadier, scout observer, Team Leader, Scout Squad Leader, Rifle Squad Leader, Ranger Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, and Operations Sergeant Major. He has served with the 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; the 5th Ranger Training Battalion at Dahlonega, Georgia; the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry “Wolfhounds”, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Head Quarters and Head Quarters Battalion 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. CSM Bass has deployed twice to Iraq in support of OIF II and OIF 07-09 and once to Afghanistan in support of OEF 10-11.

CSM Bass’ military education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System culminating with his graduation from Class 59 of the Sergeants Major Academy, the Combat Lifesaver Course, Airborne School, Ranger School, Pathfinder School, Sapper Leader Course, Instructor Training Course, Tactics Certification Course, Malaysian Combat Tracking Course, and Mountain Warfare School Summer and Winter Courses.

CSM Bass’ awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 Oak Leaf), the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), the Army Commendation Medal (4th Oak Leaf Cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (13th Oak Leaf Cluster), the Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), the National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), the Iraqi Campaign Medal (2nd Award), the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 4), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Medal (numeral 3), the Nato Medal, the Ranger Tab, the Sapper Tab, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, the Drivers Badge, British Jump Wings, and Airborne Wings. CSM Bass also holds the Military Order of Saint Maurice.

CSM Bass has earned an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science and Management and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College.
