Lieutenant Colonel Derek JansenLTC Jansen received his commission as a Second Lieutenant from Missouri State University in 1992. His service includes assignments as Rifle Platoon Leader and assistant S-3 for 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry as well as Executive Officer, Headquarters and Alpha Company and S-1 for 210th Forward Support Battalion, 10th Mountain Division.
Upon assignment to Fort Bragg, N.C., he served as Team Chief, 46th Materiel Management Team (Airborne), 2nd Corps Materiel Management Center and Commander, 600th Airdrop Equipment Repair and Supply Company. Subsequently he was assigned to the Multi-National Force and Observers in Sinai, Egypt as the 1st U.S. Army Support Battalion S-2 and S-3.
Upon his return to Fort Bragg he was assigned to the 528th Special Operations Support Battalion (Airborne) as the Assistant Support Operations Officer and later as the CENTCOM Plans Officer for the Special Operations Support Command. He returned to Fort Bragg after completing Command and General Staff College and served in the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment – D as the Supply and Service Troop Commander, Support Operations Officer and Support Squadron Executive Officer.
His next assignment was to the 528th Sustainment Brigade (Special Operations)(Airborne) where he held positions as the Support Operations Officer, Chief of Operations and Deputy Brigade Commander. His operational deployments include Operation Uphold Democracy, Haiti; Hurricane Mitch Relief Operations, El Salvador and three tours in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Missouri State University and a Master of Science in Administration (Human Resource Management) from Central Michigan University.His military education includes the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Combined Logistics Officer Advanced Course, the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Jungle Warfare School, Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, Airborne School, Air Assault School, the Parachute Rigger Course, the Support Operations Course and Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (High Risk) Course.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (with Service Star), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (with 2 Service Stars), Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal (with Service Star), Overseas Service Ribbon, Multi-National Force and Observers Medal (with Numeral 2), Combat Action Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Parachute Rigger Badge, Ranger Tab and Royal Jordanian Airborne Badge.
