Command Sgt. Maj. Demetrius Steel

CSM Steel enlisted in the United States Army in 1985 and completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Ga.

CSM Steel has served in the Army more than 27 years in various Airborne, Infantry, Artillery and Signal assignments throughout the United States and overseas, to include 552 United States Army Artillery Group, 162nd Artillery Detachment, Soegel, Germany, 82nd Airborne Division 2nd Battalion 325 Parachute Infantry Regiment and 82nd Signal Battalion, Fort Bragg NC, 35th Signal Brigade Headquarters and C Company 50th Signal Battalion Fort Bragg, NC, 1st Signal Brigade, 307th Signal Battalion Camp Carroll, Korea, 4th Recruiting Brigade, San Antonio Recruiting Battalion, San Antonio, TX, Forces Command Headquarters Fort Mcpherson, GA and 7th Signal Brigade, 44th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, Mannheim, Germany. He has held leadership positions as a Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Battalion Operations NCOIC, Brigade Operations NCOIC, Engineering NCOIC, Commanding General FORSCOM communications NCOIC, Signal Company First Sergeant, Battalion Operations Sergeant Major and Command Sergeant Major.  

CSM Steel currently has a degree in computer science. His military education includes Basic Airborne Course, Jump Master Course, International Ranger Course, Recruiter Course, Equal Opportunity Advisor Course, Primary, Basic and Advance Noncommissioned Officer Courses, First Sergeants Course and the Sergeants Major Academy. CSM Steel has participated in Operation Just Cause, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom combat operations.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with one silver and three oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer’s Development Ribbon with numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 6, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, South West Asia campaign Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Award. He has earned the Basic Airborne wings, German Fitness of excellence badge, Recruiter badge with star sapphires, and the Senior Parachutist Badge.
