Lieutenant Colonel Robert A. Culp II
LTC Culp earned his commission in 1988 through the early commissioning program at New Mexico Military Institute where he graduated as a Distinguished Military Student. While completing his undergraduate studies in Criminal Justice at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, he served for three years in the Texas Army National Guard as a Mechanized Infantry Rifle Platoon Leader.
Entering active duty in 1991 as an Infantry Officer, LTC Culp was assigned to Ft. Campbell, Ky., where he served for four years as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Mortar Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer and Assistant Brigade S2.
Upon completion of the Military Intelligence Officer Transition and Advanced Courses at Ft. Huachuca, LTC Culp completed Ranger School in the summer of 1995 and was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division G2 in Wurzburg, Germany where he served in G2 Plans and Operations before his assignment as the S2 for 1-26 Infantry Battalion. LTC Culp deployed to Bosnia with 1-26 IN for SFOR 1 from October 1996 to April 1997. Upon returning from Bosnia, LTC Culp returned to Division staff where he served as Collection Manager and G2 Operations Officer before commanding Alpha Company, 101st MI Battalion from 1999-2000. He deployed Alpha Company to Kosovo as the general support MI Company for KFOR 1A from June 1999 to December 2000.
Following his assignment in Germany, LTC Culp served as a Battalion Task Force S2 and Brigade Combat Team S2 Senior Observer Controller at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Ft. Polk, La., from 2000- 2001. Subsequent to his assignment at JRTC, LTC Culp was selected for assignment as the S2 for 1st Special Forces Group at Ft. Lewis, Wash., where he served from 2002-2004. During his assignment to 1st SFG, LTC Culp deployed to the Philippines where he served as the J2 for Joint Special Operations Task Force Philippines from July – October 2002.
LTC Culp was assigned to Special Operations Command Pacific from 2004-2007 where he served as J2 Operations Officer and Director of J2 Operations. During his assignment at SOCPAC, LTC Culp again deployed to the Philippines and served as the J2 for JSOTF-P from November 2005 to November 2006.
After completing the Joint Staff Officer Qualification course, LTC Culp was selected for assignment as the Executive Officer for the Commanding General of US Army North at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, where he served from July 2007 to Nov 2008. Following his assignment as Executive Officer, LTC Culp served as the ACE Chief for ARNORTH until July 2009.
Returning to Special Operations, LTC Culp served as the Chief of Intel Operations Division for G2, US Army Special Operations Command at Ft. Bragg, N.C. from July 2009 to June 2010. His most recent assignment was as the commander of 441st MI Battalion at Camp Zama Japan.
LTC Culp earned a Master of Arts in Military History from Louisiana State University and has earned numerous awards and badges to include the Ranger Tab, Air Assault and Master Parachutist Badges.
