Command Sgt. Maj. Giovanny Sanchez
CSM Sanchez assumed the duties of Command Sergeant Major for 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment on 10 June 2011, after serving eighteen months as the Operation Sergeant Major for 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2 BCT 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry).
CSM Sanchez was born in Ecuador, South America and is now a native of New York City, NY. Command Sergeant Giovanny Sanchez entered the Army on 27 July 1982, after graduating from George Washington High School, New York City, New York. He attended One Station Unit training for Cavalry Scouts at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Throughout his Military career, he has served in every enlisted leadership position from Gunner, Squad Leader, Bradley Commander, Section Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, and Battalion Operation Sergeant to Command Sergeant Major. CSM Sanchez has held a number of assignments; including 8th Infantry Division (FWD), Germany, Mannheim; 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, GA; 1st Infantry Division(FWD), Germany, Schweinfurt; U.S. Army Armor School, Fort Knox, KY; and 10th Mountain Division (LI), Fort Drum, NY. He also served as First Sergeant of Alpha Troop 1-71 Cavalry and Headquarter and Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI), Fort Drum, NY. As Sergeant Major, he served as Operations Sergeant Major for 4th Battalion 31st Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI), Fort Drum, NY.
CSM Sanchez’s military and civilian education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System, M3A3 Scout Commander Course, Drill Sergeant School, Battle Staff NCO Course, First Sergeant Course, Basic Instructor Training, and Small Group Instructor Trainer Course. CSM Sanchez is a Graduate of United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 59.
He has an Associate Degree in Science and Art from Elizabethtown Community College, KY and is pursuing a Bachelor Degree from Empire State College, NY.
CSM Sanchez’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1st OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3rd OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3rd OLC), Army Achievement Medal (9th OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (9th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Kosovo), Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Service Ribbon (Numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Medal (Numeral 5), NATO Medal and the Kosovo Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation.
His Special Skill and Qualification Badges include the Combat Action Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge and the Driver Badge. He is a recipient of the Order of Saint George (Bronze Medallion), and is also a recipient of the order of Spur from 3-8 Cav (Germany, Mannheim ), 5-15 Cav (Fort Knox, KY), 1-4 Cav (Germany, Schweinfurt), and 1-71 Cav (Fort Drum, NY).
