Command Sgt. Maj. John M. Farlow
CSM John Farlow entered the US Army in 1992, completing Infantryman’s One Station Unit Training (OSUT), Airborne School and the Ranger Indoctrination Program in Fort Benning, Georgia.
His first duty assignment was with the 3rd Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment serving as a rifleman, team leader, squad leader, AT Section sergeant, Air NCO, Assistant Operations NCO and Platoon Sergeant. CSM Farlow’s other assignments include LRS Team Leader E/51st INF in Darmstadt, Germany; 1/507th PIR as the Pathfinder Branch Chief at Fort Benning Georgia; the Asymmetric Warfare Group in Fort Meade Maryland as a Team Leader, Training Troop NCOIC and Troop SGM and 1SG with 2/38 CAV in Fort Hood Texas. CSM Farlow has deployed twice to Iraq, and 6 times to Afghanistan in support of the Global War on Terrorism. His other deployments include Somalia, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Albania.
CSM Farlow’s awards and decorations include the Soldiers Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, NATO Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Global War on Terrorism Medals, Basic, Senior and Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Ranger Tab and foreign jump wings from Germany, Canada and Belgium.
CSM Farlow has completed all required levels of the Noncommissioned Officers Education system including the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy. His military schools include the First Sergeant Course, Instructor Training Course, Pathfinder Course, Stryker Leader Course, Jungle Warfare Course and the Long Ranger Surveillance Leaders Course. CSM Farlow has earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political Science from East Carolina University.
