Colonel Sam Whitehurst was commissioned as an infantry officer in 1990.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Masters in Liberal Arts from Louisiana State University, a Masters in Military Arts and Science from the School of Advanced Military Studies, Fort Leavenworth, KS, and a Masters in National Security Strategy from the National War College in Washington, D.C.

 COL Whitehurst’s assignments include a tour at the National Training Center and two tours at the Joint Readiness Training Center, company command in 10th Mountain Division, and multiple assignments in the 25th Infantry Division to include brigade S-3, brigade XO, brigade deputy commander, and G-3. COL Whitehurst commanded 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry (Cacti) from 2007-2010 both in Kirkuk and Samarra, Iraq.  COL Whitehurst has participated in Operation Joint Guard in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom V and VI.  His most recent assignment was at the National War College at Fort McNair, Washington, D.C.

 COL Whitehurst’s awards include the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Ranger Tab, Airborne Wings, and the Expert Infantryman’s Badge.
