WHO NEEDS A NO-FEE PASSPORT?

All Family Members who accompany their sponsor to an assignment in a foreign country must apply for a No-Fee passport.  For Soldiers, official passports are only issued when on orders to countries that require one.  No-Fee passports are not authorized to be used for personal (leisure) travel.

WHY CAN’T I JUST USE MY TOURIST PASSPORT?

Tourist passports do not provide protection for the Family member(s) under the Status of Forces Agreement, nor do they allow family member(s) to live in the country.  However, tourist passports are acceptable for travel through Canada to Alaska.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PASSPORT AND A VISA?

Passports are issued by the country of citizenship and are an official government document that certifies one's identity and citizenship.  The passport serves two purposes: to regain entry to the country of citizenship (i.e. the United States) and it is a requirement by many countries to gain entry to the country you are visiting.

Some countries also require Visas.  They are obtained from the embassy or local consulates of the country to be visited and are an official government document that temporarily authorizes you to be in their country.  The visa usually is in the form of a stamp or sticker placed IN the passport and is obtained from the country you are visiting prior to beginning travel.

Visas are required for family members who are not U.S. citizens.  Please contact 772-6448 or 772-6536 for assistance determining if Family member visas are needed.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Your Passport Appointment will take between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on how many Family Members you have and how prepared you are.  Once we submit your applications, it will take approximately 8 weeks to receive your passports.  If Visas are required expect 4 additional weeks, depending on your destination.

REQUESTING A PASSPORT PHOTO FROM TASC

Create a work request in VIOS by going to www.vios-east.army.mil, (you'll have to register if you haven't already).  In the event that you are unable to register in the VIOS system, or log onto the laptop computer up front, please let the photographer know and we will assist you.  Click on "work request / 3903", then click "next", then "photography", then type in a justification (i.e. "passport photo for PCS to Germany"), then click "photography" then click “NEXT”.  Select PASSPORT Photo for type of photography.  Photo type is Passport, Passport size is 2x2.  In the drop down menu under “studio”, select the one that says PASSPORT PHOTOS!  Below that in the appointment date box, click the calendar icon to the right (white box with an orange rectangle top) and select an available appointment time.  Only change the quantity if you’ve been told that you need more than two copies.  Click next to proceed.  You will get a large empty box for “additional comments”.  If you’re bring family members, please put something to the effect of “bringing spouse along with 3 children” in that box.

Please note that you DO NOT need to create multiple work requests for multiple family members - one request for the entire family will suffice.  Click “next”.  You will get a chance to ensure everything is correct.  Click “next” and you will be given a work request number – write that number down and bring it to your appointment.
