Golden Dragons support veterans with food drive

The Golden Dragons of 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, collected more than 2,000 pounds of canned food for veterans in need at the unit’s annual Christmas party last Friday. The food was donated to Feed Our Vets, an organization dedicated to serving local veterans.

Sgt. Omar Cabreraabreu of G Company, 2-14 Infantry, helped to coordinate the effort, which netted 2,334 pounds of food across the battalion.

Cabreraabreu has been volunteering with Feed Our Vets since 2015.

"On the third Saturday of the month I volunteer at their office to help organize the food provided to the veterans," he said.

This was how Cabreraabreu met Carlos Da Silva, food pantry director in Watertown, and how he was able to coordinate the food drive to support the organization’s mission during the upcoming holiday season.

"We typically feed about 70 Families on any given month; however this past donation provided food for 89 Families," Cabreraabreu said.
