Public Works busts recycling myth

Myth: Pizza boxes cannot be recycled on Fort Drum.
Reality: Pizza boxes CAN be recycled on Fort Drum!
Local pizza businesses that serve the Fort Drum area make up a multimillion-dollar-a-year industry.
From our trash stream, it is clear that pizza seems to be Fort Drum’s favorite take-out. Take care of those pizza boxes and recycle them.
Follow the golden rule of recycling – empty the container. What does this mean for a pizza box?
Make sure you eat or throw away the pizza in the box. A bit of grease, a bit of cheese, a stray pepperoni – those are all fine. Just remember to take out the slices, and the pizza box can go in any recycling bin or any of the blue or brown cardboard recycling containers found throughout post.
Remember, recycling is the law in New York state. Recycling is the policy on Fort Drum. Remove those pizza boxes from the waste stream and recycle them!
Anyone with questions about recycling on Fort Drum may contact Heather Wagner, Public Works environmental educator, 772-9323, or at heather.c.wagner2.ctr@mail.mil or visit www.facebook.com/FortDrumRecycles.
