Fort Drum Soldier dies after incident in Afghanistan


A 10th Mountain Division (LI) Soldier with 10th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, died on Monday, July 22, in Landstuhl, Germany, of a noncombat-related incident that occurred in Andar, Afghanistan. The incident is under investigation.
Spc. Anthony R. Maddox, 22, of Port Arthur, Texas, served as a petroleum supply specialist.
Maddox joined the Army in January 2011. After training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Fort Lee, Va., he arrived at Fort Drum in July 2011. He deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in January.
His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and the Combat Action Badge.
He is survived by his father, mother and stepfather.
