Jefferson County Public Health Service offers free nutrition education series

WATERTOWN – The Jefferson County Public Health Service will offer a nutrition education series, “Good Nutrition, Happy Body,” aimed to improve the health of individuals and families. The four-week class series is an opportunity to learn about a variety of topics from Jill Joyce, a registered dietitian at JCPHS.
Classes will include handouts, worksheets, discussions, interactive exercises and an opportunity to ask questions related to the week’s topic.
The classes will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. beginning Tuesday at the Public Health Facility at 531 Meade St., Watertown. There is no charge for these classes. Individuals may register for one class or all.
Class topics will be as follows:
*Tuesday – Making Weight: Portion control and exercise.
*Aug. 27 – Carbs: The truth and control.
*Sept. 3 – Clean Up Your Plate: Recipe modification.
*Sept. 10 – Supplements: The good, the bad, and the ugly.
This program will help adults gain knowledge about the topic, improve menu planning and develop confidence to live healthier lives through nutrition. Each participant will learn skills and strategies to improve nutrition in their home.
To make a reservation for the series or for individual classes, call 786-3710. For more information about services the JCPHS offers, visit www.jcphs.org.
