Fort Drum Fire and Emergency Services has issued a fire danger rating of low (blue) for this week.
Fire does not ignite readily from small firebrands, although a more intense heat source, such as lightning, flares, grenades and firecrackers, may start fires. Fire in open cured grassland may burn freely after a few hours of rain, but woods fires spread slowly by creeping or smoldering and burn in irregular fingers. There is little danger of spotting.
The following restrictions apply during low fire danger rating:
wOpen fires in the cantonment area are prohibited.
wIn training areas, open fires must meet specific guidelines.
wUsing smoke grenades, flares and simulators is hazardous and easily starts wood and grass fires. Individuals must take special precautions and may not use them in areas of highly flammable grass and leaves. Areas shall be cleared for their use, and individuals must watch all devices to ensure they burn out.
wIndividuals may not burn trash, debris, leaves, pine needles or grass or burn off any area andmust extinguish matches, cigarettes, cigars and ashes before disposing of them.
