4th BCT Soldier dies in Afghanistan


A 10th Mountain Division (LI) Soldier assigned to 94th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, at Fort Polk, La., died Thursday in Gamberi, Af-ghanistan, in a noncombat-related incident.
Sgt. William D. Brown III, 44, of Franklin, N.C., served as a health care specialist.
Brown joined the Army in May 2010. After completing training at Fort Jackson, S.C., he was assigned to Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Brown arrived at Fort Polk in December.
He deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in July.
His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and a Certificate of Achievement.
Brown also completed the Brigade Combat Team Trauma Course, Warrior Leadership Course and Combat Lifesavers Course.
