Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers invites competitors to participate in Fort Drum’s second annual Zombie 5K Fun Run at 7 a.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31.
The event will be held in the field behind Magrath Gym. Runners will be released at one-hour intervals to navigate a series of obstacles.
To make these obstacles even more challenging, runners will be pursued by a crowd of “zombies” as they make their way through the course.
“The Zombie 5K is a fun opportunity for people to take part in a different kind of PT,” said Michelle Roden, BOSS senior program adviser. “It’s also a great team-building event.”
Participants are encouraged to dress up for the event.
The 5K is open to Department of Defense ID card holders who are 18 or older. The cost to participate is $20, which includes a zombie T-shirt and refreshments following the event.
A maximum of 600 runners will be able to take part in the 5K, and participants must preregister with Outdoor Recreation. Last year’s event drew a large crowd, and Roden said she expects slots will fill up quickly again this year.
BOSS also is seeking volunteers who wish to act as zombies for the event. In addition, volunteers are needed to do make-up for the zombies and to help serve refreshments.
