Fort Drum officials say plan ahead for Halloween safety

The Command Safety Office at Fort Drum offers the following tips to help ensure a safe Halloween:
wProvide children with flashlights.
wUse reflective tape on costumes and bags.
wDo not use candles in indoor jack-o'-lanterns.
wRemove obstacles from your steps, porch and yard.
wCaution children not to eat any goodies until you examine them.
wDiscourage children from running between parked cars and across yards.
wCaution children not to enter homes unless they are accompanied by an adult.
wMake sure costumes do not obstruct children's vision or create a tripping hazard.
wBuy only costumes that are labeled "flame resistant" and are clearly visible to motorists.
wKeep candlelit jack-o'-lanterns away from landings and doorsteps where costumes could brush against flames.
