Fitness facilities, programs can help fight holiday excesses


Although holiday excesses are looming, you can get a jump on staying fit using one of Fort Drum’s many state-of-the-art fitness facilities and several program options.
Atkins Functional Fitness Center offers Women’s Self Defense Classes each Tuesday and Thursday in addition to a facility geared for complete fitness. For more information about future fitness opportunities, call 772-3377.
The Magrath Sports Complex offers Conditioning Center with free weights, machines and stretching areas. Instruction on muscle-specific Life Fitness machines, flat benches, squat racks and cable machines is available along with fitness rooms featuring step masters, tread mills, seated bikes and vertical bikes.
In addition, Magrath offers three full-size basketball courts, two racquetball courts and a 150-meter walking and jogging track. The 300/500 (Bench Press) Club, Swim For Your Life Club and Run For Your Life Club are great ways to challenge yourself to get to the next level of fitness. To learn more, call 772-4584.
Monti Physical Fitness Center offers cardio and weight rooms outfitted with the latest equipment on the market. Cardio equipment includes Concept2 Rowers, Life Fitness Treadmills, Precore and Life Fitness Elliptical, Adaptive Motion Trainers and Incline Trainers.
The weight room is outfitted with Hammer Strength Life Fitness free-weight equipment. The fitness room has Nautilus Selectorized equipment.
In addition, Monti offers different fitness classes every day, including Spin, Zumba, Yoga, Cardio Pump and Fit, Hip Hop Hustle, and PiYo Strength.
Maybe a personal trainer or health management is what you need to get fit. Monti offers these services at a fee. For details, call 772-4806.
Even the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program gets into the fitness game by offering BOSS Invades Atkins. This is a monthly fitness challenge where you can compete with speed and agility to win prizes. For information on BOSS activities, call 772-7807.
