Fort Drum journalist earns awards in annual competition

A Fort Drum Civilian Employee recently won awards in the 2013 U.S. Army Installation Management Command-level Keith L. Ware Public Affairs Competition.
Steve Ghiringhelli, staff writer with The Mountaineer, earned first place in the news article category for “Parents of fallen Fort Drum warrior receive Silver Star on son's behalf.”
In addition, Ghiringhelli won first place in the story series category for a two-part feature titled "We didn't leave anybody behind."
Finally, Ghiringhelli took second place in the news photo category for “Simulated Helicopter Crash.”
The IMCOM-level winners were chosen from more than 250 submissions in print, community relations and broadcast cate-
gories from garrisons around the world.
The annual awards program recognizes military members and Civilian Employees for journalistic excellence and furthering the objectives of the Department of the Army public affairs program.
Entries from within the continental United States and outside the continental United States were judged separately. First-place selectees from each will represent IMCOM at the Army level.
The Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware Public Affairs Awards Competition recognizes print and broadcast practitioners for journalistic excellence in furthering the objectives of the Department of the Army public affairs program.
