Save money; do it yourself at Automotive Skills Center

You can keep your car or truck running and stay within your budget by doing it yourself at the Family and MWR Automotive Skills Center, located on Iraqi Freedom Drive.
The Automotive Skills Center, open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, offers equipment and tools, work bays, vehicle lifts, paint booth, auto body bays, welding equipment, a machine shop, wheel balancing and changing equipment, engine overhaul bay, lubrication bays, computer diagnosis, and electrical system testing to all DOD ID card holders.
An Automotive Safety Orientation class, required before using the Self-Help areas, is offered at noon and 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or at 10 a.m. Saturday. The staff provides a weekly basic maintenance class as well as classes in basic electrical, brakes, emissions, and heating and cooling on a rotating basis at 5 p.m. each Thursday. Welding classes are offered monthly to teach fundamental repairs and equipment use of the three primary welding types: Arc, mig and gas.
The center offers additional services such as towing, lock-out service, starting service, and propane tank filling. It also has well-stocked store with a variety of frequently needed items, including oil, oil filters and bulbs. Family and MWR offers two car washes – located at Enduring Freedom Drive and First Street – that are open 24 hours daily during warm weather.
Car shoppers can see what is available 24 hours a day at the Fort Drum POV Resale Lot, located in the front of the Automotive Skills Center through September. Sellers pay $10 per month, and they must have valid registration and insurance on the vehicle.
