10th Mountain Division Soldier killed in Afghanistan

 

Fort Drum, NY - A 10th Mountain Division Soldier stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, was killed Wednesday August 31, in Wardak province, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

 

Killed is Specialist Dennis James, Jr., age 21, of Deltona, Florida.  He was a vehicle driver with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

 

James joined the Army in June 2008.  After training he arrived at Fort Polk, Louisiana in November 2009. James deployed with his unit in October 2010 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

 

James' awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Combat Action Badge.

 

James is survived by his aunt and uncle.
