Riverfest and Mountainfest celebrations of community support
Fort Drum, NY - Despite the fiscal restraints resulting from sequestration, the 2013 Riverfest and Mountainfest celebrations are continuing through event sponsorship by many supporters from the community.
"It is a testament to the incredible support of our community and corporate sponsors that we are able to continue to celebrate our annual Mountainfest and Riverfest events. These sponsors have enabled Fort Drum to recognize the hard work and contributions made by our Soldiers, Families, civilians and neighbors over the last year," said Colonel Gary Rosenberg, Fort Drum Garrison Commander.
With the 1st and 2nd Brigade Combat Teams and the 10th Combat Aviation brigade currently deployed, and several units preparing to deploy in the near future, Rosenberg notes that these events offer more than entertainment to Soldiers and Families.
"The 10th Mountain Division is a highly skilled fighting force that has answered the nations call through nearly continuous
deployments since 2001. While mainstream media focuses on a 2014 withdrawal, the 10th Mountain Division continues to deploy, making events like Mountainfest and Riverfest even more significant to our Soldiers and Families. The wellness found in connecting with our loved ones, neighbors and supporters during times of rest and celebration directly contributes to our ability to execute the mission when we are once again called upon," said Rosenberg.
While Riverfest is geared specifically for Soldiers and Families, all members of the community are invited to Mountainfest held on Division Hill, June 26 starting at 1 p.m. There will be military equipment displays, food and drinks, games, a pay-as-you-play Adventure Zone that will offer ATV rides, archery, paintball, bounce houses and a rock climbing wall. Back again this year is the Boss Custom Car, Motorcycle, and Audio Shows.
A community favorite is the Salute to the Nation beginning at 5 p.m. with a patriotic rank and file display honoring each state in the union and its territories.
The Salute to the Nation is set to be immediately followed by a free concert. Opening acts are the 2013 North Country Idol winner -Corey Walts, Syracuse's newest rock band - Scars N' Stripes, and headliner, with six albums to his credit including "This Ole Boy," country music star - Craig Morgan. We invite you to top off an amazing day by staying for a spectacular fireworks display immediately following the concert.
Be advised, no glass bottles, pets, or firearms/other weapons will be allowed into the Mountainfest grounds. The use of diaper bags or large purses will be allowed but are subject to inspection and screening. Service animals will be permitted.
