Welcome Home Ceremonies for Returning Troops
Fort Drum, NY - Welcome home ceremonies were held for a total of 340 Soldiers returning from Afghanistan. 140 Soldiers with the Combat Aviation Brigade returned late Thursday September 29, another 170 Soldiers with the 10th Mountain Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion returned Saturday October 1 and 30 Soldiers with the 10th Mountain Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion returned Sunday October 2.
The Soldiers with the Combat Aviation Brigade spent the last year in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in the Regional Command-East area in order to provide freedom of movement, protect the population and defeat insurgents.
Soldiers with the Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion spent the last year in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in RC South. They were responsible for the combat and stability operations in the southern Afghan provinces of Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan and Dai Kundi. This was a multi-national command responsible for over 23,000 US, Canadian, British, Australian, New Zealand, Romanian, Slovak, Dutch, French, and Singaporean troops.
