Mountain Salute Ceremony Conducted November 22

Fort Drum, NY – 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum welcomed the new Deputy Commanding General for Operations, Colonel (promotable) Richard D. Clarke to the Division’s Command Group at a Mountain Salute Ceremony, Tuesday, November 22.

“There has been no single Division that has been as deployed, to so many various places, as this unit,” said Colonel (promotable) Clarke.  “This is my first assignment to this Division, and while I have never served here directly, I have been serving alongside 10th Mountain Soldiers for over 20 years.  There is no place I would rather serve, and can assure you, I will give my utmost to uphold the tremendous reputation of this Division.”

Colonel (promotable) Clarke addressed the Commander of the Ceremony, 10th Mountain Division (LI) Commander, Major General Mark Milley by saying he is excited to help the general and the command to write the next chapter in the Division’s storied history.  “10th Mountain Division Light Infantry will continue to represent and defend America whenever and wherever we might be called to serve,” Colonel (promotable) Clarke said.  “The Mountain Soldiers do so with honor.”

Prior to assuming duty as the Deputy Commanding General of Operations, 10th Mountain Division, Colonel (promotable) Clarke served as the Director of Operations, Joint Special Operations Command, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
