10th Mountain Division Soldier to receive Soldier's Medal

 

Fort Drum, NY - A 10th Mountain Division Soldier will receive one of the highest awards for non-combat acts of heroism. The Soldier's Medal will be awarded to Sergeant Jacob Perkins, 1st Squadron 89th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team on Tuesday, December 13 at 3 p.m. 

 

Sergeant Perkins will receive the medal for his actions on July 22, 2011 when he helped passengers off a burning bus on the New York State Thruway.

The Soldier's Medal was established for acts of heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy.
