Fort Drum Releases 2012 Economic Impact Statement


Fort Drum, NY - Fort Drum continues to play a significant role in the North Country's economy.


A detailed review of Fort Drum's economic impact on the tri-county area over the last fiscal year shows $1,441,992,825 was leveraged in support of the 19,024 Soldiers and 20,000 Family members living here.


"The second-to-none training opportunities and Family support services provided here at Fort Drum are the drivers to the 10th Mountain Division's continued mission success.  However, the dedication of our civilian workforce and the patriotism of our surrounding communities allows Fort Drum to be more than a training and deployment facility - it is

our home," said Colonel Gary A. Rosenberg, Garrison Commander.


Since fiscal year 1988, this Army installation has infused more than $18,345,535,016 into the local economy.


"The 10th Mountain Division is a highly skilled fighting force that answered the nations call through nearly continuous deployments since 2001 - and we continue - as do our needs of the last 10 years for training and community support," said Rosenberg.


Fort Drum is the largest employer in Northern New York with 19,024 Soldiers and 4,544 Civilian workers with payrolls totaling $966,501,445 and $206,475,224 respectively.


Retirees from all military branches who live in the 136XX zip code number 2,476. They are paid a total of $3,973,000 a month ($47,676,000 a year) which flows into our local economy.


The total military, civilian, contractor and retiree payroll was

$1,222,572,669 during fiscal year 2012.  Area school districts received $28,177,424 in federal impact aid.


Fort Drum is a major customer for construction companies and suppliers of goods and services in Northern New York.  Companies located in the tri-county area received 234 contracts worth $20,459,649.
