10th Mountain Division Soldier dies in Afghanistan


Fort Drum, NY - A 10th Mountain Division Soldier with the 210th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team died in Sharan, Afghanistan, Saturday June 1.


Private First Class Mariano M. Raymundo, age 21 of Houston, Texas. He was a wheeled vehicle mechanic.


Raymundo joined the Army in November 2011. After completing training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri he was assigned to Fort Jackson, South Carolina and arrived at Fort Drum in May 2012. Raymundo deployed with his unit to

Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in January 2013.


Raymundo's awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, a Certificate of Achievement, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge and Mechanic Bar.


Raymundo is survived by his mother and father.
