NEWS RELEASE: 2nd Brigade Combat Team Soldier killed in Iraq April 14

FORT DRUM – A Soldier assigned to the 10th Mountain Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team was killed in Iraq April 14 when his dismounted patrol was attacked by an improvised explosive device.

Spc. Ryan A. Bishop, 32, was an infantryman assigned to Company c, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment.

The 32 year-old native of Euless, Texas joined the Army in February 2005 and completed basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Ga.

In June 2006 he was assigned to Fort Drum and joined the 'Polar Bears' of 4-31 Inf. He deployed with his unit to Iraq in August 2006.

Bishop's awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Expert Infantryman Badge.

He is survived by his wife and father, both of Tyler, Texas.
