Fort Drum Public Affairs

10th Mountain Division Soldier killed in Afghanistan

Fort Drum, NY - A 10th Mountain Division Solider stationed at Fort Polk,
Louisiana, was killed Monday, February 28, in Logar province, Afghanistan,
of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised
explosive device.

Killed is Specialist Rudolph R. Hizon, age 22, of Los Angeles, California.
He was an infantryman with the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th
Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

Hizon joined the U.S. Army in January 2009.  After completing training at
Fort Benning, Georgia he was stationed at Fort Polk in November 2009.  He
deployed with his unit in October 2010.

Hizon's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart,
the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the
Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the
Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal and the
Combat Infantryman Badge.

Hizon is survived by his mother, father and brother.
