10th Mountain Division Soldier Killed in Afghanistan
Fort Drum, NY - A 10th Mountain Division Solider stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, was injured, Friday, April 8, in Wardak province, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire and a rocket propelled grenade. He died of his wounds Sunday, April 10, in Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany.
Killed is Private First Class Class Brandon T. Pickering, age 21, of Fort Thomas, Kentucky. He was an infantryman with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.
Pickering joined the U.S. Army in September 2009. After completing training at Fort Benning, Georgia he was stationed at Fort Polk in April 2010. He deployed with his unit in October 2010.
Pickering's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Nato Medal and the Combat Infantryman
Pickering is survived by his mother, father and stepfather.
