10th Mountain Division Soldier killed in Afghanistan

 

Fort Drum, NY - A 10th Mountain Division Soldier was killed in Sartak, Afghanistan, Friday, July 1, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

 

Killed is Specialist James A. Waters, age 21, of Cloverdale, Indiana.

 

Waters was an infantryman with the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team.  Water joined the Army in September 2009.  After training

at Fort Benning, Georgia, he came to Fort Drum in January 2010.  He deployed with his unit in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in March 2011.

 

Water's awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, and the

Combat Infantryman Badge.

 

Waters is survived by his mother and father.
