10th Mountain Division Soldier killed in Afghanistan


Fort Drum, NY - A 10th Mountain Division Soldier with 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team died April 28 in Baraki Barak District, Logar province, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit

with small arms fire.


Killed is Specialist Christian J. Chandler, age 20, of Trenton, Texas. He was an infantryman.


Chandler joined the Army in October 2012. After training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he arrived at Fort Drum in February 2013 and deployed with his unit in October 2013 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.


Chandler's awards and decorations include Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He completed the Combat Life Savers Course.


Chandler is survived by his mother and stepfather.
