2014 Mountainfest to include Remembrance Ceremony and Salute to the Nation.  

 

Fort Drum, NY -The annual Fort Drum Mountainfest will host a wide variety of events to include the Annual Remembrance Ceremony and the Salute to the Nation.

 

The Annual Remembrance Ceremony will be held on Tuesday June 24 at 10 a.m. in Memorial Park. This event will honor the memories of 10 Soldiers and one Civilian who died during 2013 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  

 

The Salute to the Nation will begin at 5 p.m. on Wednesday June 25 with a 56 gun salute for all 50 states and 6 territories. The Salute to the Nation is 

held in honor of our country and those who serve in its military and in remembrance for the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  

 

Following the Salute to the Nation there will be a free concert with country music star Chris Cagle and Syracuse-based modern rock band Scars N Stripes beginning at 6 p.m. Fireworks are planned for after the concert.  

 

Mountainfest activities will be held on Wednesday June 25 starting at 1 p.m. at the Division Hill Parade Field. There will be several military displays, a kid's fun zone, games and family entertainment.

 

The annual celebration is free and open to all Soldiers, Family members, Civilians and the general public.  

 

**** A reminder - all visitors to Mountainfest who are not DoD cardholders must use the Nash Blvd gate off Rte 26 across from the Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield. In addition - no coolers, backpacks, glass bottles, pets, or firearms/other weapons will be allowed into the Mountainfest grounds. The use of diaper bags or large purses will be allowed but are subject to inspection and screening. Service animals will be permitted.

 

NOTE TO EDITORS:

 

Media interested in covering the Annual Remembrance Ceremony should be at the Media Operations Center on RTE 26 no later than 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday June 24.  

 

Media interested in covering the Salute to the Nation should be at the Media Operations Center on RTE 26 no later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday June 25.
