4th Brigade Combat Team Soldier killed during attack
A 10th Mountain Division (LI) Soldier from 4th Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Polk, La., was killed Friday near Kandahar, Afghanistan, when a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device near his vehicle.
Spec. Jason A. Lucas, 24, was an infantryman assigned to A Company, 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment.
Another Soldier was wounded in the attack. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Lucas enlisted in the Army in May 2004 and trained at Fort Benning, Ga., to be an infantryman.
After completing basic and advanced individual training, he was assigned to 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, then based at Fort Polk. In November 2004, he was reassigned to 4th BCT. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal. Lucas is survived by his wife, two children and his parents.
